Welcome Designers to typography 101

Hello all,

I hope you have had a wonderful winter break enjoying our unusually warm weather. I'm excited to start a new semester with you all. We have a lot of fun stuff in store.

Your first assignment: explore online
Leave a link in the comments section of an interesting type website you found online. Be prepared to show and tell your exciting online typography resource to the class on Thursday. (please do not leave a link already left by another student)

For Thursday, Jan 12, bring magazines, scissors, gluesticks, paper, pencils/pens, etc. for an in class exercise.

  6. One of my favorite typefaces is Mrs. Eaves. It is a revival classic typeface, inspired by typefaces like Baskerville. This person wrote a short blog about the face and I wanted to share it. http://www.markboulton.co.uk/journal/comments/typeface-of-the-month-mrs-eaves

  7. I thought this website had a bunch of interesting typography. The site doesn't just focus on similar type faces but ranges not only digitally but contains pictures of type faces made by hand and collages of pictures made into letters. So many to choose from and very interesting!

  16. When I was snooping around the internet for Type related images, I found it very interesting how many of them were actually 3-dimensional objects. Lots of 3D letters, and lots of type on 3D objects. Something I found kind of humorous was needlepoint with really sarcastic phrases. It was interesting to me to choose something as old-fashioned and cutesy as needlepoint in a frame or on a pillow, and then to add like a rap lyric of something as the text.

I also have always loved Shigeo Fukuda and here is a link to the website that has some cool use of type:
